Completed (2023)

This cozy 2700 sqft Spanish Colonial Revival style villa was planned as a home for a doctor’s family from Chennai. It was important to the client to use locally sourced materials, incl. recycled wood for the doors and windows, and a meaningful utilization of material resources. This led to the use of precast elements for the roof and the facade.

The language desired was that of a Spanish colonial style resulting in the incorporation of arches, which serve not only as decorative but as structural elements enveloping the entrance porch.

The three-bedroom villa sits and a 3.500 sqft plot close to Auroville and is adorned with Mediterranean elements and arches. The villa is surrounded by a tropical garden and a water body along the northeast to maintain the serene ambiance of the villa.

The building with a total built-up area of 2700 sqft was completed in February 2023.

The building features a composite structure with the main building as an RCC frame structure and a load-bearing arched envelope around the entrance.

The roofs are made of precast RCC beams and finished with Spanish-style clay tiles.

The slope roofs offer an additional height to the bedrooms on the first floor which benefits the Spanish aesthetics and cools down the interior spaces.

The building is 80% powered by solar with a battery backup of 6hrs.

The finishes and materials used for the interiors are all natural and locally sourced and include exposed country-fired brick cladding, oxide finish for the walls, white granite, green kota stone, recycled wood, clay tiles, and terracotta floor tiles for outdoor spaces.
